Our intent of this blog is to share Brock's adventures in Orlando, Florida while he's on his LDS mission. Hopefully, by reading about how Brock is changing the lives of so many, and seeing Brock's own personal growth in the gospel, the people reading this blog will also be able to feel the spirit and be inspired to strengthen or develop their own testimonies of Christ and the LDS church.

Brock's favorite week in Daytona so far.......

Brock and Elder Harman having some fun!

Friends and Family,

This week in Daytona was one of my favorites! We seemed to always be doing
something beneficial and working smart. We spent a lot of time trying to
find some new people to teach. As we worked and had some fun in the sun we
met a lot of pretty funny people. This helps us to take a step back and be
able to enjoy our calling even more. I've decided that the heat in Florida is like
the same feeling you get when you open up the dishwasher in the middle of a wash.
The humidity is real!

Monday-
We were invited to a dinner Monday night into a
deaf brothers home. This was going to be an interesting dinner because this
man was born deaf and hadn't heard a sound in his life. We weren't quite
sure how dinner would go, but it ended up great. We were able to
communicate through hand signals and facial expressions. Luckily Elder
Harman has picked up a little Sign Language on his mission, but it was
still a stretch! It was pretty neat not communicating very clearly through
out most of the dinner, but when the lesson came and we read from the Book
of Mormon, the spirit couldn't have been stronger.

Tuesday-
Exchanges with Elder Hunt! Elder Hunt and I were able to go out and spend a
lot of our day finding! This was a longer day spending most of the day in
the sun trying to just find one person who would listen to the message of
the Restored Gospel. We looked all day and we weren't finding too much
success. The Lord didn't leave us disappointed. The Lord definitely was
preparing us for this exchange. Elder Hunt is a Spanish speaking
missionary,  and as we were headed to the car after a long day of hard
work, a 24 year old man, approached us. He began speaking in Spanish and I
had absolutely no idea what he was saying. I was about to speak slowly and
clearly hoping he understood that I didn't know very much Spanish. Elder
Hunt out of know where began to speak! I had forgotten he was a Spanish
speaking Elder! As the conversation continued, the man's name was Juan and
he was looking for a Spanish church to attend because he had just moved
from Puerto Rico! They exchanged phone numbers, and he attended church in
the Spanish branch. The Lord blessed us for working hard and doing our
part!

Wednesday-
We had a lot of administrative work to do for the Zone on Wednesday. We had
a couple of meetings, some planning for this upcoming weeks ZTM. As the day
continued we went to a dinner with a recent convert of a month named
Jackie! Jackie is like the typical little old lady in movies who is the
nicest person alive. She told us she had been just praying and praying for
us to find some people to teach and she has been thinking about how she can
share the gospel with all of her friends. It was awesome to see her desire
for missionary work!

Thursday-
Thursday was a blast! We had a constant day of teaching going from one
appoint, net to another. We've been working on helping our investigators
feel loved from Heavenly Father because just about all of them act really
depressed and down when we meet with them. If there is anything that would
cheer them up, it would be the Gospel! We bore some serious testimony of
the reality of the Savior and his Atonement.
To finish up the night our Elders Quorum invited us out to play some
basketball. We would only come if there was a non-member there. The Elders
Quorum didn't disappoint. The members of the church were out matched 12-14,
Members to Non Members! It was a good thing we attended! Basketball is just
s little bit different out here then in Utah. I felt like I was playing
some Junk Yard ball, as the rim of the hoop was getting some use put to it.
They we're dunking like crazy! After a few games, they turned the time over
to us to share a spiritual thought. A few of them were interested in
listening some more and we hope to see them again this week!

Friday-
Weekly Planning basically sums up all of our day! Friday Evening we get a
call from the Second Counselor and I was asked to speak in Church Sunday!
Woohoo!

Saturday-
Exchanges with Elder Hansen in New Symrna Beach!
This day was full of Service! We started off the morning by helping their
Ward Council clean and organize the building. Immediately after cleaning we
were picked up from a less active member who needed some help cleaning up
and cutting back her yard. It was a long day out in the sun, but it felt
really nice to help out those in need. Pit helped we were rewarded with a
nice bar-b-que dinner.

Sunday-
It was a first time in my life. I wasn't even too nervous to give a talk on
Sacrament meeting! I don't know if it was because they Ward helped me feel
really comfortable, or if I am accepting the fact that it happens to
missionaries all the time. I was asked to speak on the Priesthood, and how
It's blessed me in my life. It really made me think, and I remembered a few
examples and the Priesthood examples to me growing up. Thanks again to
those who have helped! After Sacrament, we were asked to teach Gospel
Principles! The original teacher was sick so we called called to teach!

There was a lot of great miracles seen this week, and I'm loving my time
here on my mission. I love helping people realize that Jesus Christ is the
Savior and he can uploft, help, and edify any situation. The Gospel is
True!
With Love,

-Elder Doman

Alma 7:11-13
11 And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people.
12 And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities.
13 Now the Spirit knoweth all things; nevertheless the Son of God suffereth according to the flesh that he might take upon him the sins of his people, that he might blot out their transgressions according to the power of his deliverance; and now behold, this is the testimony which is in me.

Over the one-year hump!!!

This is the letter the the President Berry sent to me to let me know about Brock being a zone leader.  I love how it lays out his duties and responsibilities for him.

Friends and Family,

I've officially been out on my mission for over a year now. It feels
like I've been away from home for maybe a month! I don't know how time
goes by so quickly, and I fear it will only speed up from here. Summer
has definitely arrived here in Florida as we feel like we are getting
burnt from the sun after walking for 5 minutes. The humidity is
unbelievable, but I think I’m starting to like it!

There were 4 really great things that happened this week, which I feel
would be the best way to format this email!

The Leadership Council
1) Elder Kapishka from the 70 came to the mission to train the MLC. It
was a spiritual touchdown after 4 hours of training from a special
witness of Jesus Christ. He discussed how we can better love the
people and the missionaries in our stewardship. It was really
motivating for me to work harder for the people and the Lord, rather than
doing it just to do missionary work. As Elder Harman and I implemented
this into our work, we found ourselves more determined, and working
with a better purpose.

2) This week I was able to go on an exchange with Elder Black! This
Brock and Elder Black
was a very extraordinary exchange for me because Elder Black has
Autism. I can't tell you how much I was able to learn from him on this
exchange. He made a complete impact on me and the rest of my mission
as he testified in the lessons, talked with everyone, and was exactly
obedient. It reminded me of my cousin Josh, and how much of an impact
he has had on my life. I'll always be grateful for Josh, and the
example he is to me.

3) Elder Kapishka also talked to us on focusing on the family, and how
we can find more people to teach as we work with our investigators
families as well. As Elder Harman and I really tried to get the whole
family into the lessons with our investigators we were able to pick up
their families and they showed genuine interest in the gospel, and
what their family members were learning about!

4) A Recent Convert named Sky went home teaching for the first time!
He was baptized the week before I arrived in Daytona, and now went out
and taught a less active family in the ward about the Restoration.
It's just cool to see how the Gospel changes lives. If we are
dedicated and willing to make some changes. I'm grateful to have seen
this and witness it for myself!

Well guys, we are into the second half now! I've always been told to
be stronger in the second half, so that's what I’ll shoot for! I feel
like I’m growing daily and loving life! Thanks again for all of the
support. You guys are the best!

With Love,

First week in Daytona, the Deland zone!

Friends and Family,

Let me tell ya, this week was a great one! It was tough to say goodbye
to old friends and members but a change was great. I went from the
heart of the city in the Orlando Zone, out to the beachfront in the
Deland Zone! I'm serving in the area of the Daytona 500 Nascar race,
and Daytona Beach! My companion is Elder Harman and let me tell ya,
this guy is one of the funniest people I've ever met. I'm laughing a
ton, and really just having a good time. He goes home back to Idaho
after this transfer, so this will be the second missionary I've
"killed." I Am enjoying the work, and we getting a lot done.
I like the responsibilities of being a Zone Leader, and I am able to
get to know a lot of more missionaries, and work with them.

So on Tuesday we went to transfer meeting, and then drove the hour and a half out
to Daytona. We spent the rest of the day unpacking and going to see some of the members!

Wednesday we had a busy day meeting the investigators we are working
with, and continuing to see some members. There is a "mission famous"
guy in this Ward that everyone calls "Grandpa." He is really willing
to do anything for us missionaries and continually does his best to
make us laugh!

On Thursday, we had a Zone Training Meeting where every month, the
Zone Leaders relay the information to the rest of the missionaries in
the zone. It was a lot of fun to get to know the missionaries in the Deland
Zone, and it was also pretty stressful making sure everything went as
planned. It was basically like a giant district meeting, but it was
with the whole zone! I loved it.

Friday, we had a big weekly planning. Being new to an area, this was
good for me to call some of the less active members, and other members
in the church. It was really just nice to familiarize myself with the
area!

Saturday, we did a lot of finding! This area had a few baptisms last
transfer, and they just finished up with one this weekend too. Our
teaching pool isn't the biggest, so this will be our focus for the
next couple of weeks. We finished up with a dinner with our ward
mission leader! His name is Brother Nuviadenu and he's from Ghana!
Such a humble man, and he too only wants the best for missionaries.

On Sunday we had a baptism! It was pretty nice to be transferred into
the area, and have a baptism your first week, hopefully this means
only good things to come, right? The baptism was right after church on
fast Sunday, and you know there is some good member support when the
baptism is full, and there was "standing room only" remaining for
attendance. I didn't really do much for this baptism, I didn't know
the family too well, but it was still great to feel the spirit, and
see this change happening for these families. There were two young men
being baptized from families that were previously inactive members. It
just goes to show that we are never "too far gone."

Well sorry this was a little bit of a shorter email! We have a lot to
do today, and we didn't time it out too well. Next week I should have
some more time, and will be able to give some more details about our
week. Thanks again for all of the great support I've received!
With love,

- Elder Doman
