Our intent of this blog is to share Brock's adventures in Orlando, Florida while he's on his LDS mission. Hopefully, by reading about how Brock is changing the lives of so many, and seeing Brock's own personal growth in the gospel, the people reading this blog will also be able to feel the spirit and be inspired to strengthen or develop their own testimonies of Christ and the LDS church.

June 28th-Last email from the MTC

Friends and Family,

How is everyone doing?? I'm finally getting used to the MTC and starting to love it, and now I am down to two more days here! Wow, time flies! The experience has been great and I'm learning so much. I can't wait to get to Florida on Monday and begin my service there! To those who sent me an individual email, I apologize for not writing you back tonight! We were just allowed to come to the CPU lab really quick to notify you to not send anymore letters or packages here, because they won't get here in time! I love hearing from you all, thanks for the emails and letters I've gotten! I appreciate the time you put forth for me, even while I'm gone! I'll send out another email once I get to Orlando Monday night. Hope all is well at home.

Much love,
Elder  Brock Doman

Letters from the MTC

I'm going to include on this blog some of things that Brock is writing in letters home to us, or to me, to give you a better idea about what's going on with him.  I think some of his dates are wrong on his letters, but it's hard to tell, days probably run together in the MTC.  We'll just ignore the date for now.  I'm sure it will get easier once he gets on a schedule.

These are some of things he included in a letter to us last week:

"I'm so glad that i'm finally able to email you! This has been one of the hardest, most challenging things I have ever done. The days are long and there is so much to learn each and every day. But it is so worth it! My testimony has increased so much and the love that I feel for the savior is amazing."

Alright to start answering your questions... We sleep in regular, college like dorms right up the street from BYU so I dont feel bad pooping in the toilets hahahah. They have 3 sets of bunk beds! I wake up at 6:15 every morning and pray and get ready, we then go eat breakfast and start having "Classroom Instruction" from 7:00-12:30. after lunch ends at 1:15 we have more classroom instruction until 4:30. So we are definitely learning how to teach the gospel of Jesus Christ! We then go have dinner and take a break. After dinner we have this thing called "TRC" or "Teaching Resource Center." We were given a real life investigator and we have to teach them the lessons! It is so great because it is basically practicing for the mission field. Well, that is my very exciting day. It may sound long and painful, but I am definitely learning to love it! I have already started to feel and see a change within myself!

"About the letters and Emails, I'd just like to talk to you guys as much as I can. So emails, letters and anything else are great!! I love and miss you guys like crazy!  It was definitely hard for me too at the airport, but I know that I am supposed to be here! I want you guys to read D and C 100 as a family. Sooo awesome."

" This is my last P day in the MTC, So that won't matter and I still don't know when it will be in Florida but I'll let you know as soon as I can. The MTC has already changed my life forever and my testimony is even stronger! Love you guys so much. P.S. I know I am still HEARTS KING and that won't change! All is well with me and I hope for the same with you guys. I'm thinking, praying and missing you guys each and every day! I'll talk to you as soon as I can!"

This next letter was on Tuesday June 24th, his MTC P-day.

"Today was great!  It was nice to email you and talk for a little bit.  P-day was great because I was able to take my mind off the everyday stresses of the MTC!  I had a crazy experience.  Today for our Tuesday devotional Elder Todd D. Christofferson spoke on "the worth of souls" in God's eyes and how he loves each of his children the same.  It really made me think about Josh [Brock's autistic cousin].  After the devotional we went back to our classroom and discussed the devotional.  I talked about Josh and the same kind of thing with them.  The branch President's wife also brought up the same subject.  She worked with special needs for 6 years in a rehab PT center.  One of the kids with her had a very special connection and they ended up being the best of friends.  Well, it ends up that she went with the special needs kid to receive his patriarchal blessing.  In his blessing it said that he was one of the escorts who escorted Satan out of God's Kingdom in the pre-earth life, and God wants him to live with Him again, so he has been "blessed" with his disability, and God made it so Satan cannot tempt him because of it.

That reminded me of Josh so much.  Who know, maybe Josh was an escort as well?

I don't think you know this, but the night I took Josh to play laser tag, I saved one of the arcade tokens.  I did this so it could remind me just how much Josh was a perfect example and how he was perfect.  I kept that coin for that reminder to Josh's example.  I miss that kid so much.  He definitely has an amazing spirit with him.  I was jealous you were able to spend the weekend with the cousins.  Maybe you could share this letter so that people can  look to Josh as an example.

Tuesday, June 24th-MTC

Friends and Family,

I am having an amazing time here at the MTC!  The days are long and hard consisting of about 9 hours learning in the classroom, 2 hours teaching investigators, and an hour and half of meal time.  So, the days are definitely challenging, but it is also very worth it!  I have already started to see a change within myself and am growing so much.  My testimony gets stronger each and every second here and I am learning so much.  I have a companion here at the MTC named Elder Richards.  He is about 5'1 and weighs 150 pounds, he's a vegetarian, and doesn't play sports.  So we definitely have our differences!  But when we teach our investigators, the spirit is so strong and that is the most important thing.  I wish I could tell you more about the experiences I'm having, but there just isn't enough time!  I would love to hear about your yours.  Please email, or write me a letter!  You guys are the best and are giving the motivation to keep going.  I love you all so much.

 Hope all is well.

Elder Brock Doman

And later in the day, Brock sent us this email, pretty funny!  He usually texts me a funny joke or a pun at least once a week, so I loved seeing this!

I forgot to tell you guys that I made a funny joke that everyone is talking about at the MTC. Anyway we found out the 4th day that the Orange Juice was giving everyone some "Stomach Problems" a.k.a. Chocolate Rain...... Anyway, I made the joke calling it the "forbidden juice" rather than the "forbidden fruit" ha. ha. DA DUM TSSS!!!!
